Some mornings start with coffee and pancakes. My mornings explode into full-blown comedy shows … because I’ve spent 46 years married to a man who should’ve been a stand-up comedian. And as an everyday entrepreneur juggling blogging for business, email marketing, and grandkids, I rely on laughter to keep me sane..
The IHOP Incident 🍳
Today’s “ordinary” morning started at IHOP. The place packed out fast, and after waiting forever, we finally grabbed a table. … conveniently located next to the swinging door into the dishwashing area. Lucky us.
Every time an employee came in or out, they yelled “DOOR!” like it was an Olympic event. My husband, Rich, leans over, grinning ear-to-ear, and says:
“Next time someone yells door, I’m going to shout… WINDOW.”
That’s it. My funny bone is gone. I’m laughing like he just cracked the code to the universe. Our waitress came by, so of course I shared his brilliant idea. She chuckled, then said:
“Yeah, don’t let him work here. He’d get called to the back office, written up, and fired.”
And suddenly I realized… this is what work-life balance really looks like for us. A little chaos, a lot of coffee, and enough humor to make strangers giggle (or at least roll their eyes).
From Pancakes to Pirate Jokes ☠️🌽
We came home, and I got back to business … drafting emails, working on my next blog post, doing what every affiliate marketer and digital creator knows too well: juggling content, connections, and caffeine.
Rich strolls into my office like he owns the place and drops this gem:
“How much do pirates charge for an ear of corn?”
Me: “I don’t know.”
Him: “A bucc-an ear!”
Cue the eye roll. Cue the snark. And yes, cue me remembering why I call myself the fiery grandma. Because sometimes it really is self-defense.
Why Humor Belongs in Business (and Blogging) 💻
Here’s the truth … running a business from home isn’t always easy. Blogging for business, building an email list, creating content… it can feel overwhelming. But laughter? It’s the secret tool nobody talks about. Humor in business helps you keep perspective, connect with people, and stay sane when everything feels heavy.
For me, it’s part of the entrepreneurial lifestyle. I don’t just blog for SEO or affiliate marketing income … I blog to share the real-life mix of family antics, lessons learned, and tools that actually work. Because being an everyday entrepreneur isn’t just about systems and checklists. It’s about living well while you earn smart.
And sometimes, that means laughing at a pirate joke instead of stressing over your next blog headline.
Your Turn:
What’s the funniest joke, pun, or antic you’ve heard lately? Drop it in the comments … I want to see if anyone else’s “work from home” life feels like a stand-up comedy show.
