In Memory of Debbie Moore

In Memory of Debbie Moore

One Last Goodbye

Last night as I checked Facebook one last time I stumbled upon a message “in memory of Debbie Moore“; this message was from the daughter of an old friend. Reading her post I paused, re-read it and gasped. A friend of mine had died at 4 PM that day. In tribute to her memory I’d like to share the story of how Debbie and I met, what she meant to me, how she encouraged me to become an entrepreneur and fulfill that dream of working at home.

Debbie was a very happy go lucky woman who always had a smile on her face. She was a wife, mom to three great kids and had just become a grandma. I didn’t think her glowing smile could get any brighter; but, when her daughter gave birth to her first grand-baby…she light up like a brilliant star in the heavens. Although our paths crossed many times when we were young our friendship didn’t begin to develop until a job brought us together, working at a local car dealership.

Debbie was the office manager at Red Bluff Chrysler Dodge and soon to become my supervisor. Having no experience working for car dealerships Debbie was patient and worked with me to help get my skills and knowledge up to par. She had a firm but loving way about her, a no-nonsense way that got the job done yet we laughed the entire day as if we were young girls out playing in the back field.

I can honestly say I’ve never had a supervisor that left such an impression and impact on my life, both personal and professional. When I applied for another job working for the County she encouraged me to go for it even though I was scared to death. The reference she gave was so honest and highlighted the value I could bring with me…it was very humbling. She was sad when I left but very happy for me for mustering up the courage to “go for it”.

Our paths rarely crossed much after we worked together, we’d see each other a few times throughout the year at local events, stop and take a few minutes for niceties then go on with our day. It wasn’t until we reconnected on Facebook that our relationship, our friendship started to rekindle itself. Odd, isn’t it…we live in the same town, know some of the same people, yet run in different circles and only connect on Facebook. I think there’s a lesson in that one…but, one for a different time.

If there is one thing I’m grateful for it is that not long ago I took the opportunity to publicly thank Debbie. Commending her for the way she lived her life, how she handled working with people and for always staying on the positive side. I even went so far as to tell her that I’ve had many supervisors over the years and NONE hold a place in my heart or memory … except her. Debbie was a special woman, an extraordinary human-being who will not be forgotten, but missed terribly.

I’ll close now in reflection on the life of my friend, Debbie Moore and her part in mine; the only peace I can find is in the Bible, I hope it brings you comfort, too. My favorite verse is found at Revelation 21:4 and it reads “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

If there’s a lesson in losing those we love too soon it would be this one – embrace every moment of every day, tell those you care about that you love and treasure them. Life is short and sometimes shorter than we could even imagine. Click here to read what other friends shared about Debbie.

With that I’d like to thank each and every one of you for taking time out of your precious day to read about one amazing woman who graced my life in so many ways. Goodbye Debbie, until we meet again.
