Affiliate marketing isn’t about shouting on social … it’s about showing up with substance.
Let’s cut to the chase, shall we?
Affiliate marketers are being fed a daily diet of “just post more,” “go viral,” and “engage 15 minutes before and after you breathe.” Meanwhile, your content is disappearing faster than a toddler’s snack. 🤦♀️
And for the record? I’ve been there. Loud and clear.
So today, let’s talk truth: If you’re relying solely on social media to grow your affiliate business, you’re playing in quicksand.
Because here’s the thing: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook … they’re platforms, not strategies.
I Should Know… I Quit for 12 Years 🙈
Yup. I said it.
I started blogging and email marketing in 2010.
Stopped in 2012.
I didn’t come back until over a decade later. Why?
Because I was:
-
Talking to everyone and their Uncle Bob.
-
Making zero money.
-
Listening to advice I didn’t understand (or refused to).
-
Drowning in network marketing mindset that made me a parrot, not a person.
Affiliate marketing felt like a scammy sideshow. Blogging? Boring.
Email marketing? Ugh … too techy.
And I had no clue how to connect the dots between my offers and my audience.
Until one day… it clicked.
Tip #1: Don’t Quit. Seriously. Just Don’t.
I watched a friend of mine start at the same time as me.
Only difference? She kept going.
She learned how to blog.
Built an email list.
Listened to her coach.
And climbed her way to the top … while I was stuck spinning in place.
Meanwhile, I couldn’t get out of my network marketing sales mode long enough to serve someone. I was stuck chasing volume instead of building value.
Which brings me to…
Tip #2: Stop Trying to Be Someone Else (Seriously, Stop It)
In network marketing, we were taught to “find someone who has what you want and do what they do.”
So I did.
I was a mimicking machine. A robotic, polished, fake-it-‘til-you-make-it version of me. And honey, it was exhausting.
It took years (and some serious popcorn discipline from my mama) to realize I’m not meant to fit into anyone else’s brand voice.
I’m snarky.
Very real.
And I get stuff done … my way.
When I finally embraced that, email marketing and blogging became fun.
Now, instead of pushing a product, I tell stories, make people laugh, and share what I’ve learned. I serve.
And that makes sales feel natural, not slimy.
Tip #3: Blogging for Business Beats the Social Media Rat Race
Let’s be real:
Social media content lasts 24 hours (if that).
A blog? Indexed on Google. Found in Pinterest search. Evergreen.
Oh, and your email list? Yours.
Not Meta’s. Not Elon’s. YOURS.
When you write a blog post and send it to your list, it’s like writing a good old-fashioned summer camp letter:
“Hey friend, here’s what I learned this week. Thought of you. Here’s how it might help you.”
That connection? That’s how trust is built. That’s how you stop being “just another affiliate” and become someone people follow on purpose.
Tip #4: Your Strategy Needs a Foundation (Not Fluff)
Most beginners start backwards. (I did.)
They get shiny object syndrome:
“I can sell this!”
“And this!”
“Oooh! And that!”
Before long, they’ve got 17 affiliate programs, 0 systems, and a migraine. 🤯
Start with one thing.
Then layer in another once it’s running smoothly.
And for the love of all that’s caffeinated … use tools that make sense.
