Baby Boomer – What Is The Big Deal Being Called One?

Baby Boomer – What Is The Big Deal Being Called One?

I am a grandma…does that mean I am a baby boomer

From the time I was a little girl old enough to understand what a grandma was I wanted to be one. You may remember reading the many stories shared here about how my grandma helped shape who I have become. Some of you may have good memories of your grandma and others may have bad ones.
The fact of the matter is everyone has or had a grandma in their life otherwise they would not exist, right. Why is it then that there can be such a stigma attached to being called a baby boomer? After all a baby boomer can be a mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt or uncle, even a grandma or grandpa. That title can even reach as far as a great grandma or grandpa for some.
The other day a friend and I were chatting on the phone when I had one of those aha moments. I had been struggling with a part of my business and did not understand what was holding me back.

However, during our conversation that proverbial light bulb clicked on and my thoughts and vision for our future became as bright as the sun shining in the sky.

Let me take you down a very short memory lane (no pun intended)

A little over three years ago I began working with a business coach. Many of you know her, “the pink haired” lady on social media. If you have had the privilege of working with her you know one of her famous tips is how to listen and speak to your ideal client.
When I first started working with her I was building a retirement part-time business with a company I had been with for years. I believed in the product, company and executive staff. My intent was to learn how to bring my marketing online and expand my business to a fuller degree.
Part of that education involved learning how to blog and build a community of baby boomers just like me. I would learn how to deepen my relationship with my customers, friends and potential generation x. Trying hard to do just so, I worked diligently at learning the lessons and implementing the tasks. The end result was a nice website with many pages full of pertinent information.
Taking my education to the next level I chose to work closer with Sandi and commit my time and energy to advancing in the marketplace. Shifting my focus to our auto transport business we developed a coaching and training program for other brokers. What I found was little interest and even smaller return on my investment at that time.
Okay, that did not work, so now what?

I found myself searching for who I was, what I wanted in life and why I wanted it. The audience I thought was my ideal client did not want what I was offering. Finally, all of the information I had taken in over the past year came together for me. I knew without a doubt what it was that I had to change in order to grow into profit. Have you ever found yourself in a situation like I did?
Once again my focus shifted when I found a retirement part-time business that my audience, the baby boomer generation was looking for and wanted. The months continued as the sales mounted and business partners joined the ranks. Yet there was still something that was not right, not connecting one hundred percent. What was it?

Remember the phone call with my friend?

It was during that call, chatting about life in general and then it hit me. Baby boomers range in age from 45 to 65 plus. That is a very wide target to hit; it definitely was not MY market, was it? I needed to read articles and find the interests of other baby boomers, yet I was resisting it horribly. Why?
The light that shone bright was the revelation that I did not want to BE an old baby boomer! My mind was associating being a baby boomer with residents of a rest-home! Oh my, now if you live in one, please do not take offense.
However, that gave me such clarity! When I realized what I had been thinking deep inside of my mind it set me free. I am forever young, a fiery grandma of five who wants to turn back the clock on aging and disease to STAY OUT of the rest-home.
Now I know who needs what I have, Baby-boomers just like me! Now I realize that I can write about my life as an auto transport broker and a grandma who loves to travel with her husband. I can share that building our retirement part-time business is not work, it is fun! The business of keeping others from aging and the diseases associated with it is the tool we can use to accomplish that goal.
Do you want to live in a rest-home void of vibrant health and mind OR do you want to KEEP your vibrant health and mind like I do?
I found the way to stay away from those resident hallways; you can join me if you want to avoid becoming one those baby boomer statistics. What is that old saying? Ah yes, today is the best day of the rest of your life…baby-boomers and all.
